One Earth Future (OEF) is an international nonprofit, nongovernmental organization with a mission to catalyze systems that eliminate root causes of war, leading to our tagline “Peace Through Governance.” OEF focuses on both researching and developing ideas, and implementing those ideas through practical programs.
This temporary Research Assistant position will support Secure Fisheries’ Fisheries Conflict project by contributing to the development of a fisheries conflict database. This position will lead data collection for the proposed database, working closely with other team members to develop a protocol for collecting and coding fisheries conflicts in Africa over time. The database will be developed in Excel and transitioned to an online platform at the end of the term. The Research Assistant may also be asked to contribute to website content (e.g., blogs) based on the database.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Working with the Senior Research Associate to design a data collection protocol for identifying and measuring instances of fisheries conflict
- Reading and searching literature, including academic, news, and informal sources, to identify instances of fisheries conflict in Africa and related variables or metadata
- Organizing and populating a database for public dissemination of these data
- Assisting in data analysis
This is a temporary position budgeted for 3 months at fulltime 40 hours per week or 6 months at part-time 20 hours per week, with a project completion deadline of the end of July 2018. We are open to flexibility with schedule and can work around individual scheduling needs within reason.
