Workshop Attempts to Answer the Question: How Do You Measure Peace?

JULY 18, 2017—BROOMFIELD, Colo. — The International Peace Institute (IPI) and One Earth Future (OEF), along with the Permanent Mission of Bangledesh to the United Nations and the SDG 16 Data Initiative, will host an Innovation in Partnerships workshop, entitled “SDG 16: How to Measure Peace.” The event, featuring a World Café format, takes place at the International Peace Institute in New York on July 20.

This workshop is the second in the Innovation in Partnerships series and is facilitated by OEF Research, a program of One Earth Future. The discussion will focus on establishing consistent and effective measurement tools and as a basis for understanding progress toward fulfilling the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

“OEF believes good decisions require good data.  Measuring progress toward reducing violence, ending abuse and promoting rule of law is critical to global efforts to create a more peaceful world,” said Dr. Conor Seyle, director of OEF Research. “To meet SDG 16’s goals by the year 2030, we must develop effective measurement tools through novel approaches and partnerships with stakeholders from all sectors.”

The workshop provides a platform for civil society, UN diplomats, and directors of National Statistical Offices to collaboratively advance the progress of SDG 16 which seeks to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.

Innovation in Partnerships is a new series of conversations sponsored by One Earth Future Foundation and hosted by the International Peace Institute to develop partnerships and to advance the progress of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
