At Sea For All - The Importance of Seafarers and Their Wellbeing


We rely on seafarers to transport 90% of the world's goods, underscoring the importance of safeguarding their health. In 2015, 5,000 seafarers endured maritime piracy incidents, wtih at least 152 kidnapped or held hostage. These seafarers and their families have faced fear and uncertainty, and in some cases, direct abuse. This video, released on International Day of the Seafarer, celebrates seafarers and their importance to all of us, while calling attention to the issues they face at sea and the long-term impact of piracy, based on research by OEF's Research and Oceans Beyond Piracy programs.
