Today, in recognition of the 75th Anniversary of UN Charter Day - June 26th - OEF is announcing its partnership with a handful of other institutions in launching plans to host the UN75 Global Governance Forum. The virtual gathering will take place September 16-17, 2020, in parallel with the United Nations UN75 initiative, billed as the largest, most inclusive conversation on the role of global cooperation in building a better future for all.
Our Global Governance Forum is being co-chaired by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; Dr. Madeleine K. Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State; Professor Ibrahim A. Gambari, former Nigerian Foreign Minister and UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs; Mary Robinson, the first woman to serve as President of Ireland, former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Chair of The Elders; Eric Horvath, Director of Capital Strategies at Common Future; and prominent international youth leaders.
Under the banner "The Future We Want, The UN We Need," the Forum and its related tracks of work over several months will seek to foster a more inclusive and effective United Nations equipped to effectively navigate the increasingly complex problems we will face in the years ahead, in particular around peace, sustainable development, human rights, and climate. The gathering will include stakeholders from civil society, the private sector, academia, policy entrepreneurship, UN bodies and Member States, and philanthropic institutions. It is designed not only for dialogue, but to set in motion new frameworks of collaboration between key actors in the modern world to jointly address the seminal challenges of our time.
