Barisamaad Farm

Barisamaad Farm (“Barisamaad” or “the Farm”) is a commercial farm that was founded by a woman named Barlin Shire in 2014. She continues to own and operate the farm, cultivating six of its 200 hectares through sustainable means. The Farm supplies local businesses and households with fresh, high-quality produce sold via wholesale and retail.

Through a loan from the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund, the Farm was able to dig a 190m borehole, construct a solar system, and purchase and install a drip irrigation system to cultivate 100 additional hectares of land.

Barisamaad intends to cultivate a minimum of 3 hectares per year until all 200 hectares are cultivated. The borehole will be the main source of water for irrigation particularly during the dry season and will ensure the availability of water throughout the year. The solar system will power the pumping of water from the borehole, and the drip irrigation system will maximize the utilization of water resources.
