Shuraako, a program of One Earth Future (OEF), is an investment broker and fund manager. Shuraako, meaning “partnership” in Somali, connects entrepreneurs throughout the Somali region with investment capital to grow their businesses. Learn more about Shuraako.
Shuraako is a program of One Earth Future (OEF), a self-funded, private operating foundation seeking to create a more peaceful world through collaborative, data-driven initiatives. As an operating foundation, OEF provides strategic, financial and administrative support to Shuraako and its other programs allowing them to focus deeply on complex problems and to create constructive alternatives to violent conflict.
The core mission of One Earth Future is to catalyze systems that eliminate root causes of war. Its Shuraako program was created to promote economic development in the Somali region by connecting prospective investors with promising Somali enterprises, thereby increasing employment opportunities, and contributing to greater stability and peace in the region.
Shuraako currently works throughout the Somali region, with offices in Hargeisa, Garowe, and Mogadishu. In 2019, the program expanded to a new market. Shuraako is now growing its network of partners and entrepreneurs to provide more financing opportunities for merit-worthy businesses in other parts of the world. For more information about our anticipated expansion contact [email protected].
Shuraako does not issue financing itself. The program provides a necessary service to investors by conducting due diligence on local Somali businesses and providing recommendations for potential investment opportunities. Shuraako also provides loan management services to investors.
Shuraako works on behalf of both investors and entrepreneurs. For investors, the program conducts on-the-ground due diligence to identify promising enterprises in need of investment and services loans. For entrepreneurs, Shuraako identifies opportunities for them to access capital – from designing new impact funds to identifying charitable lenders. Once an investment decision has been reached, Shuraako provides on-going loan management services, including payment tracking and collection, throughout the life of the loan. Investors are solely responsible for all investment decisions.
If you are a Somali entrepreneur with an investment opportunity in the Somali region, we want to hear from you! For more information about eligibility and how to apply for financing, visit the How to Apply page or email us at [email protected].
We aim to support promising Somali businesses with an existing track record that are in need of capital. Our approach is to start small, build a relationship, and expand from there. If you are a Somali business interested in acquiring financing, please visit our How to Apply page.
Shuraako connects investors and entrepreneurs, facilitates investment into micro, small, and medium sized enterprises; and ultimately aims to catalyze job creation.
Shuraako believes that the private sector is a key player in addressing the root causes of conflict. Economic development through responsible investment and job creation brings with it greater civic participation. More involvement from the community leads to more transparent and accountable governments as citizens demand increased responsiveness. This creates a reciprocal relationship that ultimately leads to greater prosperity and peace. Shuraako does not attempt, in any way, to influence the government, but works with the private sector to create jobs and promote a robust economy.
