One Earth Future and his family are grieving the loss of Bud Rosenthal after his death in late February. Bud contributed significantly to OEF’s work and culture in the relatively short time he acted as Chief Operating Officer for the Foundation, building friendships and helping to facilitate powerful impact. We will dearly miss his expertise, energy and humor and our thoughts and hearts are with his family during this difficult time.
Prior to joining OEF as Chief Operating Officer in July, 2019, Bud spent 20+ years in the high-growth technology sector. His experience included leadership roles at public technology companies (AOL, Yahoo and RealNetworks) and, serving as a co-founder and/or CEO of several early stage, venture-backed companies (TurnHere, Bigstep and WorkMetro), which collectively raised $100M+ of top-tier venture capital funding. He spent a year as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Charles River Ventures, a $2B early stage venture firm. Bud earned an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. in International Relations from Bates College.
Bud was also active in working closely with a variety of national and regional non-profits. This work included serving as a Board member in Washington DC area for Junior Achievement, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Children’s Science Center of Northern Virginia, MicroMentor, the AOL Foundation and MindsMatter.
To continue Bud’s legacy and commitment to making the world a better place, OEF has donated 10,000 trees for planting in Somalia. If you would like to join in this gift of life and lasting tribute to Bud, you are welcome to contact Jordan Parsons for more information.
Bud is survived by his son Jackson, daughter Teagan, and their mother Teresa Mohr; his brother William (Ted) Grace and sister Kerry Rosenthal; his mother Sheila Rosenthal; and several nieces and nephews; as well as countless friends in the United States and abroad. He was predeceased by his father, Donald B. (Bud) Rosenthal, who passed away in 2007.
Bud’s family will hold a celebration of his life on Saturday, March 7, 2020, in New Canaan, Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers or donations in his memory, Bud would simply ask friends and family to be sure to give each other an extra hug every day and enjoy life as much as he did.
