Register now to participate in this week’s global conversation on the critical role of international cooperation in addressing the world’s increasingly complex problems. The UN75 Global Governance Forum aims to support the United Nations in effectively navigating challenges in the years ahead through innovative partnerships, in particular around peace, sustainable development, human rights, and climate. Be a part of this important dialogue!
As the 75th U.N. General Assembly convenes this week, One Earth Future (OEF) is one of five partner organizations convening the UN75 Global Governance Forum, to be attended virtually by more than 2,000 global leaders. Within the Forum’s full two-day agenda of activities, One Earth Future Founder and CEO Marcel Arsenault will also participate in a philanthropy panel discussion, and OEF’s PASO Colombia and Secure Fisheries programs will share highlights of two of the 20 innovative partnerships developed for presentation to world leaders at the UN75 Leaders Summit, planned for 21 September, in New York.
The UN75 Global Governance Forum seeks to promote a more inclusive and effective United Nations through dialogue and recommendations that better harness the ideas, capabilities, and networks of both state and non-state actors for achieving the UN’s commitment to peace, sustainable development, human rights, and a stable climate.
The UN 75 Global Governance Forum will amplify aspects of the Roadmap for the Future We Want & UN We Need: A Vision 20/20 for UN75 and Beyond, being unveiled this week, which are the product of two years of policy dialogues and collective action through a collaborative cross-sector process.
The Forum Agenda provides links to participate via Livestream or Zoom, and instructions on how to access interpretation in 16 languages. Plan your participation with our Session Overviews.

Findings will be presented by participants in its development process through a robust line-up of plenaries, partnership presentations, concurrent sessions and conversations.
Jointly convened by One Earth Future, The Stimson Center, Global Challenges Foundation, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, and the Global Governance Philanthropy Network, the UN75 Global Governance Forum Honorary Co-Chairs include:
- Ban Ki-moon, Eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations;
- Dr. Madeleine Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State;
- Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Director-General of the World Health Organization and Prime Minister of Norway;
- Professor Ibrahim Gambari, former Nigerian Foreign Minister and UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs;
- Aya Chebbi, African Union Youth Envoy;
- Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Chair of The Elders; and
- Juan Manuel Santos, former President of Colombia.
This week, the Forum will showcase 20 multi-stakeholder partnership initiatives among civil society, the private sector, philanthropic institutions, governments, and the UN system as well as 20 institutional, policy, and normative change proposals.
Two of the 20 multi-stakeholder partnership initiatives will be unveiled at the Forum by One Earth Future program teams:
Paso Colombia Program Director Juan Fernando Lucio will present “A Network for Peace and Security in Colombia” to global leaders that include Colombia´s ex-president Juan Manuel Santos, a member of The Elders and Nobel Peace Laureate. This partnership promotes the inclusive rural development of peasant economies in the country’s territories most affected by conflict, the presence of armed groups and crops of illicit use.
Based on a new form of governance that multiplies local collective intelligence, the partnership takes advantage of assets in the territories, and generates synergies with existing programs and projects to scale them up, transforming their beneficiaries into project partners. The approach is changing the dynamics of commercialization, impacting productivity, strengthening local governance networks and territorial organizations, empowering women and youth, developing resilience to emergencies associated with the presence of armed groups, and providing an appropriate response to the spread of COVID 19.

Secure Fisheries is leading the partnership “Cold Catch - Developing Cold Chain Infrastructure for the Somali Fishing Industry” to bring about a multi-disciplinary solution to challenges posed to the Somali fishing industry by high energy costs, poor infrastructure, and insufficient markets. The partnership will promote investment in cold chain infrastructure that can be piloted in Somalia and expanded to other lesser developed countries. The aim is to provide efficient, low-cost technology and skills to fishing communities and seafood companies.
“The Somali marine environment has the potential to produce hundreds of millions of dollars of seafood each year while providing high quality protein to a country facing famine and drought. A stronger cold chain would improve profits and reduce spoilage. One Earth Future and our partners are developing a pilot project combining technical training, best practices, infrastructure such as solar-powered cold storage, and data collection in Somali fishing communities,” said Secure Fisheries Program Director, Sarah Glaser.

One Earth Future Founder and CEO, Marcel Arsenault, commented, “I am proud of the impactful partnerships that PASO Colombia and Secure Fisheries have led through the Forum diagogues, but I am even more excited about the possibility of a United Nations that can align global resources and national priorities in order to deliver local value.”
“In a world as complex and interconnected as the one we live in, no one institution, no matter how large or powerful, can solve global problems alone,” said Jon Bellish, Vice President of Strategy, One Earth Future Foundation. “Thoughtful, innovative, and well-executed partnerships among governments, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society are essential to make progress at the scale and in the timeframe required.”
Following this week’s Forum, world leaders will mark the historic 75th Anniversary of the United Nations on 21 September by formally endorsing a Declaration with twelve distinct commitments calling for global action. The Roadmap - and the groundbreaking conversations that contributed to its development - will serve as a guiding document, advancing the ideals and implementation of the UN75 Declaration goals to “deliver the future we want.”
