COVID-19 is more than just a public health emergency - it is a national security threat of a different kind. More than 7 times as many Americans have died from the COVID-19 pandemic compared to 9-11. The US needs to broaden the lens of its responses, looking past traditional security thinking, taking into account differing experiences and needs among the population, and including the skills and contributions from all members of society. Policymakers can look to the Women, Peace and Security agenda (WPS) for guidance and urgently-needed solutions.
A new policy brief by OEF’s Our Secure Future department offers a set of WPS-grounded analyses and recommendations to the US Congress to support a more effective pandemic response and recovery for all Americans.
