Dr. Nelly Isigi Kadagi Earns WIOMSA 2021 Emerging Scientist Award

The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) awarded Dr. Kadagi for excellence in research and promoting marine science in the region.

Former Secure Fisheries postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Nelly Isigi Kadagi, was given the 2021 Emerging Scientist Award by the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA). This award promotes emerging coastal and marine scientists in the Western Indian Ocean region and acknowledges their excellence and innovation in research. Dr. Kadagi is recognized as a regional leader in billfish education and research, including in the Somali region where she is working with the students in Project Kalluun to collect important information about the extent and diversity of billfish populations in the WIO. Dr. Kadagi is the director of the WWF Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program and Conservation Leadership Initiatives, in addition to her duties as a principal investigator on the BILLFISH-WIO project.
