22 Mixed Farm

22 Mixed Farm is situated in Jibgale, a fertile location 22 km east of Garowe, Puntland. The farm has been in operation since 1995 and provides the surrounding community with an assortment of fruits, vegetables, and dairy milk. Before it received capital investment, the farm was not able to maximize its productivity, and was only utilizing 50% of its 10 hectares of land. The farm was struggling because it did not have a consistent supply of water. It was dependent on rainfall and a public borehole, which was located offsite, to provide water for its produce and livestock. Scarce rainfall and limited irrigation piping from the public borehole drastically hindered production.

22 Mixed Farm secured financing with help from Shuraako and used the funds to drill a deep borehole and create an efficient irrigation system. The onsite borehole has improved the farm’s output of crops and dairy milk while the irrigation system has allowed all 10 hectares of the farm to be fully cultivated and crops to be harvested year-round. The borehole and irrigation system provide a consistent source of water, and substantially increased the farm’s revenue.
