Hafun Fish and Processing Plant

Hafun Fish and Processing Plant (“HFPP”) is a significant influencer of the fishery industry, owning the only cold-chain facility in Hafun, Somalia, where it processes and distributes marine products from local fishermen.

HFPP was approved for a loan from the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund in June 2021 to install a hybrid diesel/solar system in its processing plant, as well as procure additional cold-chain storage to keep up with anticipated demand. HFPP estimates that its diesel consumption will decrease from 60 to 20 barrels per month with the installation of this hybrid system. Because HFPP purchases exclusively from local small-scale fishermen, their increase in production will benefit local economies. HFPP also plans to sell 40% of its products to the local market.
