Hamdi Foundation

Founded in 1999, Hamdi Foundation (“Hamdi”) is an early childhood education facility that provides quality education to children in Somalia by offering programs that complement the educational services typically offered by public and private schools. According to the World Bank, Somalia has one of the lowest primary school enrollment rates of any country in the world. Hamdi offers early childhood education services for children prior to entry into primary school, which provides a foundational education for young children while also providing the opportunity for parents to work away from home.

Hamdi is composed of two campuses. The company’s first campus is owned by the company and attended by 85 students. This campus offers half-day programming only. The second campus, which had reached its full capacity with over 261 students, offers both half-day and full-day programming. In 2017 Hamdi’s management noted high demand for its services where their second campus is located. Through a Shuraako-facilitated investment, the company was able to purchase new school equipment and furnishings to expand and grow its student population.
