Mumin Dairy Farm

Established in 2012, Mumin Dairy Farm “Mumin” is a dairy production business that sells camel milk in Hargeisa, Somaliland.  Mumin currently has a herd of 106 camels, divided between lactating and non-lactating groups, which are grazed on three farms owned by the company.  At current production, the farm is able to produce over 150 liters of milk per day to sell in the local Hargeisa markets.  As demand for fresh camel milk has continued to grow, Mumin sought investment to increase its production capacity by expanding its herd and improving farm inputs and outputs.

With Shuraako’s help, Mumin was able to acquire the necessary capital to purchase 20 additional milking camels and their calves, fodder, a truck for deliveries, and constructed a water reservoir to safeguard against mounting drought conditions.  These improvements have increased the farm’s number of lactating camels by 63% and reduced its operating costs by reducing the need to purchase animal feed and water.
