Som Plastic Industry

Som Plastic Industry (“Som Plastic”) manufactures plastic housewares and furniture in Mogadishu. The company uses locally sourced raw materials, providing an incentive for Mogadishu residents to recycle their plastics by paying $0.25 per kilogram of material. Som Plastic also imports raw plastics from foreign vendors to supplement their production.

Som Plastic is the only local manufacturer of housewares in Somalia. To meet existing demand in the market, the company was approved for a loan from the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund. The loan will be used to purchase molding machines, packaging materials, molds, and additional raw plastics to continue manufacturing its products.
