Soma Fishing

Soma Fishing was established in Berbera in 2011. The owner has been steadily expanding Soma Fishing’s fleet to meet the growing demand for fish in Somalia. In addition to managing its own boats, Soma manages two other company’s vessels. Soma Fishing’s production and sales process incorporates the cold chain from sea to store. Once harvested, the fish are transported to a processing facility where they are filleted and preserved on ice. The fish are stored in cold rooms on the Fair Fishing premises until they are transported to the main market in Hargeisa, Somaliland. Soma Fishing has the capacity to keep growing, but needed additional funds to increase its fishing capacity.

After receiving a capital investment with assistance from Shuraako, Soma Fishing purchased a fishing boat with a motor and nets. By expanding its fleet, Soma Fishing has been able to increase its catch capacity and meet customer demand.
