Trump’s Post-Election Tactics Put Him in Unsavory Company

In a recent article for the New York Times, Pulitzer Prize winning writer Andrew Higgins examines how by refusing to accept the results of last week’s U.S. election and working to delegitimize the vote, President Trump is following a similar strategy to that of dictators.

Mr. Higgins article cites a recent article by One Earth Future that describes dictator behavior and what factors are typically considered when deciding to step down or not. “It is rare for dictators to step down, but when they do it is because, like Pinochet, they have a feasible alternative, such as rejoining the military, that allows them to avoid accountability for human rights abuses.”
