The objective of this three-day tour was to share experiences with the Network of Agroecological Families of Valle del Cauca to technically, socially, organizationally and economically strengthen the projects supported by the ERAs of Antioquia. The participants visited 5 farms where they were able to participate in theoretical-practical workshops in which they learned about the implementation of the agroecological model on a large and small scale, applied to the sustainable production of cocoa, fruit trees, vegetables, fish, cattle, goats , pigs, chickens, among others.
The agroecological model combines ancestral knowledge with modern and ecological agricultural production techniques to develop sustainable productive ecosystems that, in addition to protecting the environment, generate savings in agricultural inputs for producers and much healthier products for consumers. In addition, they prioritize the food self-sustainability of the regions before the development of large-scale commercial monocultures. For these reasons, it is the preferred model of production among the communities that participate in the Alternative Rural Schools around the country.
