Secure Fisheries is taking a look back at the challenges, adaptations, and accomplishments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The goal of this effort is to inform fisheries management by regularly assessing how many boats are fishing in the district’s waters and to generate revenue through licenses.

Graduates demonstrated the knowledge and skills they gained in fish capture, boat repair, and post-harvest processing to the Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fishery Development, other government officers, and key stakeholders.

Secure Fisheries became a member of the Conservation Alliance for Seafood Solutions, a global community of stakeholders from around the world working together to make seafood supply chains more sustainable.

These challenges range from foreign competition to a lack of cold chain infrastructure, and the impact of COVID-19.

As part of the Fisher Field School project, Secure Fisheries and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization distributed fishing equipment to three villages in the Zeila district of Somaliland.
