ONN Director Andreas Persbo Becomes a Gender Champion in Nuclear Policy

ONN Director Andreas Persbo has joined the Gender Champions in Nuclear Policy (GCNP) leadership network as a gender champion becoming a part of a global leadership network of female and male decision-makers. He follows the lead of ONN’s Inaugural Director, Laura Rockwood.

Gender Champions in Nuclear Policy is a leadership network that brings together heads of organizations working in nuclear policy who are committed to break down gender barriers and make gender equity a working reality in their spheres of influence. Gender Champions include Presidents, Directors and other institutional heads of organizations whose agendas and/or members address nuclear nonproliferation, nuclear weapons policy, nuclear disarmament, nuclear security, nuclear deterrence, nuclear energy and other related topics. The initiative is inspired by and modelled on the International Gender Champions, who represent the leaders of the United Nations and other International Organizations, Ambassadors accredited to them, and associated civil society and business groups.

GCNP provides ONN with a platform to collaborate with other leaders and decision-makers to exchange ideas, enrich activities and further advocate for gender equality.

As a member of the network, ONN must make commitments each year to advance gender equality in our organization or programmatic work. Andreas has decided to focus on the following three pledges:

  • ONN will support the development of leadership competences among young women, both on our staff and in our network, providing mentorship and/or professional development aligned with our mission.
  • ONN will appoint staff to participate in the Foundation's Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), dedicated to creating a diverse, just and welcoming workspace, and the DEI Committee on Gender, Race, religion, Ethnicity and Nationality (GRREN), dedicated to improving DEI and gender constructs in the Foundation's programmes.
  • ONN will engage actively in the discourse on gender mainstreaming and gender equality on visible platforms.
