ONN Director Andreas Persbo Participates in the 4th Session of the Group of Governmental Experts on Nuclear Disarmament Verification

On 15-19 May, Director of Open Nuclear Network (ONN) Andreas Persbo participated in the fourth and final session of the Group of Governmental Experts on Nuclear Disarmament Verification (GGE NDV) in Geneva, Switzerland. This session marked the conclusion of almost two years of intensive discussions among experts on this critical issue.

The 2022-2023 GGE NDV was established as per Resolution 74/50 (A/RES/74/50) of the UN General Assembly. All participants contributed in their personal capacities, and the Group held its first meeting in 2022.

The 2022-2023 GGE NDV built on the progress made by the 2018-2019 Group, providing a vital multilateral platform for experts to exchange knowledge, insights and perspectives on the technical and political challenges associated with nuclear disarmament verification.

After extensive deliberations, the GGE NDV successfully adopted a consensus final report, which will serve as an important framework to guide future efforts in the field of nuclear disarmament and disarmament verification. The report will be presented to Member States at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

ONN extends its congratulations to all the experts, the UN Secretariat and UNDIR, as well as the chair of the GGE NDV for the successful conclusion of the Group's work. Their dedication and contributions will lay the groundwork for advancing global efforts toward nuclear disarmament and verification.
