Kismayo, Somalia - In a pioneering effort to revolutionize fisheries in the Jubbaland region of Somalia, One Earth Future’s Secure Fisheries program has embarked on a groundbreaking co-management project set to bring transformative change to the way fisheries are managed in the area.

In the heart of the Bulahar fishing community, a transformation was underway, fueled by the determination of individuals like Khalid Hassan. Khalid's journey from a community member to a skilled mechanic unfolded, marking a turning point for his community and their relationship with the sea.

Over May 15-17, 2023, Secure Fisheries’ Senior Research Associate, Paige Roberts, participated in a coral reef monitoring training workshop in Djibouti, Djibouti hosted by the Transnational Red Sea Center (TRSC).

On December 20th and 21st of 2022, the Secure Fisheries Somalia team met with the Federal Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy, including Minister Ahmed Hassan, the Director General, the ministerial technical team, and other senior bureaucrats.

The long awaited ice machine made landfall in Bander Beyla, Somalia, and on October 29 2022, Secure Fisheries field staff held an opening ceremony for the momentous occasion.
